About SCOPE Canada
SCOPE is a not-for-profit organization, founded and governed by Canadian physicians.
SCOPE develops quality continuing health education (CHE) programs for specialists, family physicians, and allied healthcare professionals. Every SCOPE initiative is designed to directly impact Canadian clinical practice, healthcare team effectiveness, and patient outcomes.
Our accredited and non-accredited programs span all therapeutic areas, employ a broad range of learning formats, and are designed to serve healthcare providers across Canada. SCOPE programs involve collaboration with leading experts, industry partners, medical education and communication companies, and accreditation providers.







Vipul Jairath
MBChB, DPhil, MRCP, FRCPC
Dr. Jairath is a Professor of Medicine at Western University and holds the John and Susan McDonald Endowed Chair in IBD Clinical Research. Trained at the University of Leeds, he earned a PhD from Oxford and a diploma in clinical trials from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He founded and directs Western’s Advanced IBD Fellowship program. His research focuses on clinical trials, index development, and outcomes research, with over 200 peer-reviewed publications.
John Marshall
MD, MSc, FRCPC, AGAF
Dr. Marshall is a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Division of Gastroenterology at McMaster University, as well as a consultant gastroenterologist at Hamilton Health Sciences. He completed his MD at Queen’s University and his MSc in Clinical Epidemiology at McMaster. A Full Member of the Farncombe Family Digestive Health Research Institute, he has published over 200 academic papers. He is Editor-in-Chief of JCAG and a Fellow of both the AGA and CAG. His research focuses on IBD, IBS, GI bleeding, endoscopy, clinical trials, and health outcomes.
Mark Silverberg
MD, PhD, FRCPC
Dr. Silverberg is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto and a leading researcher in IBD genetics and classification, including the Montreal Classification. He completed his medical training at the University of Toronto and his PhD at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute. With over 200 publications, he directs the Advanced IBD Fellowship at Mount Sinai and co-directs national IBD training programs. He is a member of IOIBD, a past chair at Crohn’s and Colitis Canada and the AGA, and founder of the Toronto Immune and Digestive Health Institute.

Kerri Novak
(Bowel Ultrasound)
MD, MSc, FRCPC
Dr. Novak is with the academic faculty at the University of Calgary, and has an IBD-focused practice at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, AB. She was the first IBD physician in Canada to introduce routine use of intestinal ultrasound in clinic in 2012 and has been a passionate advocate and champion ever since. She is a founding member of the International Bowel Ultrasound Group (IBUS), their current Secretary of the Governing Board, the Chair of the Canadian interest group (CAN BUS) and American-Canadian join group (iUSCAN), and an enthusiastic trainer of all those interested from all over the world.
Jeff Mosko
(Endoscopy)
MD, MSc, FRCPC
Dr. Jeffrey Mosko is a gastroenterologist at St. Michael’s Hospital and Director of the Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship. He trained at Western University and the University of Toronto, with advanced endoscopy fellowship training at Harvard. He holds an MSc in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety and specializes in luminal and pancreaticobiliary endoscopy, with research focused on endoscopy quality improvement.
Hemant Shah
(Hepatology)
MD, FRCPC
Dr. Hemant Shah is an Assistant Professor and Staff Hepatologist at Toronto General Hospital. He specializes in viral liver disease and innovative care models for hepatitis and fatty liver. A leader in medical education, he co-authored the Canadian Hepatitis C Guidelines and leads Echo Liver Ontario. He is the inaugural recipient of the CASL Education Excellence Award.

Vivian Huang
(IBD in Pregnancy)
MD, MSc, FRCPC
Dr. Vivian Huang is an Associate Professor and Clinician Investigator at Mount Sinai Hospital, University of Toronto. She trained at Queen’s University and completed an Advanced IBD Fellowship and MSc at the University of Alberta. She founded preconception and pregnancy in IBD programs in Alberta and Ontario, focusing on multidisciplinary and e-health strategies to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes.
